Our Collections

The École Pratique des Hautes Études - PSL houses a range of scientific libraries and archives. This transdisciplinary resources support advanced research in various areas of Religious Studies and research on religion on contemporary and historical topics within and beyond Europe.

Humathèque Condorcet

The Humathèque Condorcet is a research library serving the humanities and social sciences, uniting collections and archives from over 50 libraries and centres. Located at Campus Condorcet, it houses nearly a million documents, including books, journals, photographs, films, maps, and sound recordings, both physical and digital.

The printed collections and archives from the EPHE’s libraries and documentation centres (BSR, CERTPJ, CEMS, BMF, CDAT, CWG and CGM) have been integrated into the Humathèque, the large documentary facility on the Condorcet campus, along with the collections of several other member institutions such as: École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), Fondation Maison des sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) or the Institut national d’études démographiques (INED).

Open Access Collections at the Humathèque Condorcet

The Humathèque’s printed collections are divided into eight main research areas (four major thematic research areas A – D and four research areas corresponding to major cultural areas E – H).

Pôle A – Knowledge and Sciences: Focuses on the history and epistemology of sciences and techniques, humanities and social sciences, and scientific research methods.

Pôle B – History: Comprises around 87,000 works from various history libraries.

Pôle C – Texts, Meaning, Creation: Includes collections on text history, religious studies, philosophy, arts, literature, language, and psychology.

Pôle D – Spaces, Populations, Societies: Covers demography, sociology, anthropology, political, legal, and economic sciences, as well as urban, rural, and environmental studies.:

Pôle E – Africa: Features collections from the Centre for African Studies and the Library of African Research.

Pôle F – Americas: Encompasses collections on North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Pôle G – Asia: Divided into seven sub-poles covering South Asia, Himalayas, China, Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and Siberia.

Pôle H – Eurasia: Documents on Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans, and the Caucasus.

 

Archives at the Humathèque Condorcet

The archives include materials from research institutions and organisations in the humanities and social sciences, all accessible at the Aubervilliers site:

Research Centre Archives: Representing 24% of the total volume, these archives come from various research units.

Researcher Archives: Over 300 collections, totalling more than 2.5 km of physical documentation.

Learned Societies and Scientific Journals: Archives collected for their scientific interest, representing 1% of the total volume.

Activists, Political Parties, Unions, and Associations: Archives from non-academic personalities.

Scientific Surveys: Mainly demographic surveys from INED, currently being organised and not yet accessible.
