The Oriental Institute – University of Sarajevo is a public scientific research institution established in 1950 with the task of collecting, processing and publishing manuscript and archival material in Arabic, Turkish, and Persian, studying these languages and their literature with special attention to the creation of Bosniaks in these languages, and studying history, cultural history and oriental art in Bosnia during the Ottoman administration.
University of Sarajevo can assist in providing access to relevant collections within the BiH State Archives, the collections unique for study of religious life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as the Republic Commission on Religious Affairs (1945-1974); Religious Commission of the Presidency of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1945-1953), Republic Commission on Religious Affairs of the Executive Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1954-1974); Supreme Sharia Court for Bosnia And Herzegovina – Sarajevo (1879-1946); Sharia School of Justice Sarajevo (1887-1937); Higher Islamic Sharia-Theological School Sarajevo (1937-1945).
