“Albanian University” in collaboration with the General Directorate of Archives, Albania, invites you to join the upcoming webinar "The Central State Archive of Albania. A short history and its collection of religious documents", February 17, 2022.
Due to its complicated history, the archives of Albania are probably the less known part of the country. The social-realist past is still at the center of the attention in multiple ways. Ironically, even the history of the institution that preserves the religious documents of Albania is strongly connected to the social-realist past. The archives of the religious communities were gradually confiscated from the Central State Archive or donated to it in the period between WWII to the year 1967, when all religious activities and confessions were banned. The religious records and books, manuscripts and prints, cover a long period of time, dating between the 6th to the 20th century. Their content is, mainly, the Holy Scriptures (of the Christian and Islamic tradition), liturgical and theological, administrative and financial records, correspondences and decisions of the religious court (accordingly to each religious local organization).
In our presentation we will give a brief description of the history of the institution that preserves these records, and then will give a general description of the collections of documents and books preserved at the Central State Archive.
The General Directorate of Albania can be a source of data for all the users interested in the evolution of the religious sciences in Albania. They have digitalized their data, and of course these data can be a good source for all (future) RESILIENCE users.
