In September 2024, the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies ‘Prof. Ivan Dujčev’ at the University of Sofia welcomed Dr Reuven Kiperwasser from the Ariel University/Polis Institute for Humanities in Israel as a RESILIENCE Transnational Access fellow.
Here is what Reuven Kiperwasser said at the end of his RESILENCE Transnational Access (TNA) research stay:
“The two weeks I spent in Bulgaria, at the Dujčev Center in Sofia, were very useful for me and broadened my horizons regarding ancient Bulgarian literature and its history. I investigated the sources of the so-called ‘Solomonic stories’ in a work entitled ‘Тolkovaia Palea’ or ‘Palea Interpretata’, a Slavonic composition of apocryphal, exegetical and polemical material compiled around the 13th century.
During my research I got acquainted with new works by Bulgarian authors that were previously unknown to me, for example by Tatyana Slavova, and learned which old Bulgarian texts and relevant studies are available on Bulgarian websites. As part of my stay at the Dujčev Center, I got acquainted with the history of this remarkable institution and its collections. Together with TNA Coordinator Maria Totomanova, we discussed possible ways of cooperation and further work.
Overall, my stay in Sofia was informative regarding getting to know Bulgarian culture and its place in the Balkans.”
