Discovering the Rich Cultural and Religious Heritage in Albania

October 21, 2024, Albanian University and the National Museum of Medieval Art held a scientific activity for students and lecturers of the university, presenting them the rich cultural and religious heritage of Albania.

With this activity, the university is working toward one of its goals, which is to strengthening contacts with Albanian institutions dealing with religion and religious heritage. By organizing events like this, the university also aims to create more awareness for religious studies and for the necessity of a research infrastructure that makes others aware of resources.

Unique Collection

Mrs. Fjoralba Prifti, head of the museum,  presented the topic: “National Museum of Medieval Art and its unique collection worldwide”, analyzing the history and developments of art works displayed in this museum, like iconography. Albanian religious heritage contains precious spiritual assets, which stand beside world masterpieces of Byzantine painting. Iconographic art and iconostases created by Albanian painters in the course of five centuries, starting from the Bronze and Iron Eras are displayed in a modern building.

Heritage

Father Vangjeli showed the students the implementation of this iconographic art in the Cathedral of Christ Resurrection in Korçë.

Prof. dr. Kaliopi Naska of Albanian University, an expert of history, praised the heritage of art works, as an expression of national cultural pluralism.
