In preparing a training prototype, it became for Karla Boersma (Apeldoorn) clear, that the topic of religious illiteracy is something to consider while composing future trainings.
One of RESILIENCE’s tasks is to develop a Training Services Management Plan, including the evaluation of a training prototype. This training prototype, to be held next year in Rome, is now under development and we asked Karla Boersma (Apeldoorn) for her experiences.
“While preparing for a prototype training, I was once again confronted with the facts: we can no longer assume that certain basic knowledge about religion is generally present, and that applies to all kinds of people in society and also to professionals. Even in a city like Rome, where religion is on the streets, a growing degree of religious illiteracy is evident.
Fortunately, there are initiatives and ideas to do something about this. RESILIENCE is planning to bring these initiatives and ideas to the forefront during the prototype training for scholars affiliated with RESILIENCE partners. The evaluations and output of the training prototype will be used for the further development of the RESILIENCE Training Services Management Program.
This way we “get two for the price for one”: we will get guidance on how to take religious literacy into account when developing future trainings and we will get ideas on how to work with it in practice.”
