University of Sarajevo was established in 1949, and has since remained the leader in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of quality of study programmes and research, number of students and departments.
Academic/professional staff and students of the University of Sarajevo account for one third of higher education participants in Bosnia and Herzegovina (27000 students and 2800 academic and professional staff). Within the University, the majority of resources for Religious Studies are available at the Ghazi Husrev-bey’s Library, the Faculty of Islamic Studies, and the Faculty of Catholic Theology, with satellite collections available at the Oriental Institute and Faculty of Philosophy (Department of Oriental Studies).
